TJ Firneno is a native of White Haven, Pennsylvania. In 2016 he relocated to Arlington, Texas after being based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for ten years. TJ received his B.S. in Biological Sciences, with a triple minor in Mathematics, Biochemistry, and Theater Arts, from Duquesne University in 2011, and then his M.S. in Biology from The Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2016. Currently, TJ is pursuing his PhD in Quantitative Biology at the University of Texas at Arlington.
TJ received his dance training and has been affiliated with The Degnan Ballet Center/Ballet Northeast (now currently The Degnan Ballet Center at the Wilkes Conservatory), based at Wilkes University in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, and became part of Ballet Northeast, DBC’s resident company, in 1999. He has core training in ballet, modern, and jazz and received from instructors including Kristin Degnan-Boonin (Degnan Ballet Center/Ballet Northeast), Timothy Early (Opus 1 Contemporary), Carrie Elmore-Tallitsch (Martha Graham Dance Company), and Craig Biesecker (Mark Morris Dance Group). Since 2009 TJ has been a guest artist and guest faculty member with The Degnan Ballet Center/Wilkes Conservatory. While in residence with Mr. Firneno has essayed numerous roles including across both the classical and contemporary repertoire of the school. In 2007 and 2008 TJ also served as a guest artist with Wyoming Seminary’s Performing Arts Institute.
While in Pittsburgh, TJ worked with numerous theater companies including The Duquesne University Red Masquers, The Summer Company, The Gemini Children’s Theater, Little Lake Theater, The New Olde Bank/Smithfield Street Theater, McKeesport Little Theater, and Carlow University Theater Group. With these theater companies, TJ served as an actor, set designer, director, producer, and choreographer.
Since moving to Arlington, TJ has been focusing greatly on his studies at UTA, but has since started to dabble back into the theater scene in the DFW metroplex. He has currently been working with ONSTAGE in Bedford as both an actor and set designer/scenic painter during their 2018 and their upcoming 2019 season.
